Description: large-sized (70 cm), black. Wing and tail length, looking very big at the time of flight. There are patches of pale hairs at the base of primary and faint stripes on the tail. But at the time of flight or at rest, the general appearance of the body entirely black. Juvenile: pale, with pale yellow streaks on the feathers and thighs.
Iris brown, beak black with gray ends, sera and yellow legs.
Sound: Lamentations repeatedly "klii-ki" or "hi-liliuw", usually issued in a series of tones is weakened.
Global deployment: India, southeastern China, Southeast Asia, Sulawesi, Maluku, and the Great Sunda.
Local spread and status: Scattered, but are widespread throughout the Great Sunda, in the lowlands and hilly forests to a height of 1400 m (in Java to a height of 3,000 m).
Habits: inhabit the forest, usually seen circling low over the canopy of trees. Beautifully and easily glides on wooded hillsides, often in pairs. Rob other birds' nests.
